Erasmus+

What are good language skills?

Good language skills in the language of instruction at the host university are essential for a successful study abroad and need to be attested prior to your exchange.

Sufficient language proficiency within the Erasmus+ Program is regarded as follows:

  • English: B2 (CEFR)
  • all other languages: B1 (CEFR)

Be aware that these meet the minimum requirements for your application. Some universities have specific language requirements that demand advanced language skills - check the language requirements for each university carefully.

Our Table of Partner Universities gives extra information about the language requirements of our partner universities.

How do I prove my proficiency in a language?

When applying at LMU for a spot in the Erasmus+ Program, you may prove your language proficiency with:

  • Abiturzeugnis (English: at least 7 years of study, must be completed with "gut"/10 Punkte; all other languages: at least 5 years of study, must be completed with "gut"/10 Punkte)
  • Certificate of the LMU Sprachenzentrum
  • passed language proficiency test, such as TOEFL (iBT, min. 87 points), IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, etc.
  • DAAD-Sprachzeugnis (may be issued by the LMU Sprachenzentrum)

For detailed information about proving your language proficiency, see LMU's webpage Erasmus Sprachnachweis.
