Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Markus Rapp

Professor of Atmospheric Physics, a new chair endowed by the DLR

Munich, July 1, 2012

Markus Rapp has been appointed professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Meteorological Institute at LMU Munich. The newly installed chair is endowed by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Markus Rapp is also head of the DLR Institute of Atmospheric Physics, located in Oberpfaffenhofen. Professor Rapp's main research is in the area of complex processes in the middle atmosphere, i.e. the stratosphere and mesosphere at heights between 7 and 80 km. Measurements at such high altitudes are done using high-altitude research rockets or ground-based radar and lidar methods. This research contributes to a fundamental understanding of the dynamics of the atmosphere as a whole.
