CHE ExcellenceRanking 2010: LMU Physics in excellence group

The Faculty of Physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen is "an outstanding, research-strong department with an international orientation for master’s and doctoral students". This is the result of the CHE ExcellenceRanking 2010, which was conducted by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE).

Munich, October 27, 2010

The CHE ExcellenceRanking is designed to support undergraduates searching for suitable masters or doctoral programs. In 2010, the focus was on the fields of physics, biology, chemistry and mathematics. The CHE identified 130 European higher education institutions that excelled in one or more of the surveyed disciplines. Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU) Muenchen had all four surveyed subjects represented in the respective excellence groups. In Germany, this result is only matched by one other university.

The Faculty of Physics at LMU Muenchen is leading the physics excellence group in terms of the number of top placements it received in the preselection: Alongside Université Paris-Sud 11, LMU Physics excelled in 6 of 8 criteria: the number of publications in the web of science, citations of articles (in relation to the international standard), outstanding researchers, student mobility, the existence of an Erasmus Mundus Master's degree program, and the number of projects in the Marie Curie research promotion programme of the EU.
