The Faculty of Physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München currently offers Master’s degree programs in the following fields:

The admission requirements and application procedure for the Elite Master Course "Theoretical and Mathematical Physics" are described on the TMP website.

Requirements for Admission to the Master of Science Degree Programs in Physics, Astrophysics, and Meteorology

In addition to the general requirements for admission to the university, applicants also need to meet the specific requirements for admission to the Master's of Science (MSc) degree programs in Physics, Astrophysics, and Meteorology:

  • the successful completion of a first professionally qualifying university degree or an equivalent degree obtained in Germany or abroad either in Physics, Astrophysics, Meteorology or in another mathematical/scientific field, and
  • the successful participation in an assessment procedure conducted by the Faculty of Physics for the purpose of determining whether the applicant is eligible for the Master's program to which he or she is applying. Applicants to the Master's programs in Physics and Astrophysics will find a detailed description of the procedures used for the assessment here. Candidates for the master's program in Meteorology can find details on the assessment procedure in the official document called “Satzung über das Eignungsverfahren für den Masterstudiengang Meteorologie  an der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München”, which is published on the German website.

Application for Admission to the Assessment Procedures for the Master's programs in Physics, Astrophysics and Meteorology

In addition to applying at the International Office for admission to the university, applicants to the master's programs must apply for admission to an assessment procedure: Applications for admission to an assessment procedure must be received by July 15 if you want to start your studies in the winter semester following that date, or by February 15 for a start in the summer semester. Your application for admission to the assessment will be considered only if the complete application documents are received within the deadlines stated above (preclusion period).

Application for admission to the assessment procedure for the Master's program in Physics:

Applicants to the Master's program in Physics are asked to register at the online application portal at https://www.efv.verwaltung.uni-muenchen.de/masterphys. Please answer the questions posed there and upload the required documents. Typically the online application portal opens one month, sometimes two month before the deadline.
